Introduction to the language

WebSitePP Tags :

WebSitePP's command tags differ from HTML ones only by the case: they are in uppercase.

The drawback is that HTML tags must be written with at lease one lower case letter. But this is a "good" constraint: the XHTML, evolution of HTML language, requires HTML tag in lower case.

The first advantage is that command tags do not trouble text editors which handle HTML (emacs...): indentation and coloring are still working. The second advantage is the simple writing (no weird character at each tag).

They are quickly described below. For further details, see the reference manual on next page.
Their number is 10, divided into 6 groups.

Group related to the site structure (1 command) :
- <PAGE PageName> : Declares a new web page PageName. The page name has no extension but may contain a relative path. Example :
  <PAGE Cookery/BierTart>
  <html>
    <head><title>Bier Tart</title></head>
     <body>
      Write the bier tart recipe here
    </body>
  <html>
  </PAGE>
Group related to the language management (2 commands) :
- <DEFINELANG LangName> : Declares a new language labelled LangName. Each declared language leads to a HTML file generated for each page of the site.
  Example : <DEFINELANG en>
- <L LangName> : The text inside this tag will be present only in the pages for the language LangName.
  Example : <L fr> Texte Français </L> <L en> English text </L>
Group related to macro-instructions (3 commands) :
- <DEFINE MY_MACRO> : Declares the macro instruction MY_MACRO (uppercase letters only). Its call is simply done with the tag <MY_MACRO>.
- <USEPARAM n> : Used when defining a macro to "paste" the parameter number n (first = 0). Notice that the parameter evaluation is recursive (a text with some macro calls may be paste).
  Example of macro with one parameter:
  <DEFINE MY_MACRO> the parameter is <USEPARAM 0> </DEFINE>
- <PARAM> : This tag immediatly follows the call of a macro, and declares the value of a parameter. It must be repeated as many times as the parameter quantity that the macro needs.
  Example : <MY_MACRO> <PARAM> This is parameter 0 </PARAM>
Group related to the links (2 commands) :
- <RELPATH FileName> : For FileName given from the site root, this tag is replaced with the filename from the directory of the current page.
  Example : If the current page is Cookery/BierTart,
  <img src="<RELPATH Images/myPhoto.jpg>"> gives <img src="../Images/myPhoto.jpg">
- <PAGEFILENAME PageName LangName> : This tag is replaced with the filename of the given page name with the given language, from the directory of the current page. The result takes into account the prefix and suffix of the files.
  Example : if the current page is Photos/Egypte, <PAGEFILENAME Cookery/BierTart en> gives ../Cookery/BierTart_en.html (with the default suffixe, and if "en" is not the first declared language)
Group related to conditions (1 command) :
- <IF TestType MacroName Value> : This command compares the content of the macro MacroName with the value Value (string without space character). According to the value of TestType (EQUAL or NEQUAL), the content of the tag is kept or not. The <ELSE> command, inside the tag, splits its content into two texts. The second one will be kept if the test fails.
  Example : This code returns the text "second part":
  <DEFINE TOTO> Turtle </DEFINE>
  <IF EQUAL TOTO Cat> first part <ELSE> second part </IF>
Groupe related to others topics (1 command) :
- <INCLUDE FileName> : This command includes the description file FileName into the calling description file.
  Example : <INCLUDE library.wspp>
